#COVID lockdown for me began almost exactly 6 years ago. 6 years later in the USA:

- no major outlets cover it
- government has stopped tracking it? maybe?
- I don't even know where to get current case estimates
- #furry and pony cons were the last holdouts for mask and vax policy, and both have given up on it
- "vax and relax" even though that's a bad policy for vaxed people and dooms unvaxed people to death
- anti-science backsliding denies the germ theory of disease and the truth that #COVIDisAirborne
- the incredibly prolific and normally good Michael Hobbes decided to punch left to a covid prevention influencer, on the basis that she is too doomer (nothing she said seemed unreasonable to me, Hobbes has been curiously silent on specifics)
- denying ventilation and the swiss cheese model of disease prevention does nothing to create intuition and systems of resilience. for example if we had world-class HVAC filtration indoors, we would prevent (I'm guessing) 95% of the 40,000 COVID+flu deaths in the USA per year. so save 38,000 lives a year, mostly of old people. and as a freebie, you prevent colds and new airborne diseases too. we could focus efforts on hospitals and schools (both hotbeds of disease) to start.
- I got covid at least 3 fucking times and I lock down and do almost nothing and am pretty good about N95 masking and get my goddamn vaccines. for real go fuck yourself if you remain willfully ignorant of the harm COVID does to healthy people, let alone disabled people (who we've learned these last 6 years are disposable, unworthy of protection, and are assigned at birth -- it is inconceivable to ABC or NYT that someone could be "born healthy" and "become disabled" e.g. through a COVID infection)
- I'm pretty young and, on top of getting COVID 3+ times, have had at least two illnesses with 7+ days of significant symptoms each time. that's 5+ major illnesses in 6 years. this kind of sickness never happened to me pre-covid.
- I've had a cough since I think my second covid infection in 2022
