We see you, shittifiers.
This is the part which says if I buy your auto automobile, I cannot paint a stripe on it, drive it to a store you don’t own, or even add seat coverings.

But maybe a stronger analogy, because the software is addictive and extractive, would be to say I agree to have sex with this person and never use a condom.

First heard this principal from Cory Doctorow of EFF in the Ezra Klein interview last month.

The term inference has been making the rounds recently, especially since Nvidia's recent (love it or hate it) conference. WSJ explains what inference is, why Big Tech companies are shifting toward it and what implications it could have on big and small tech companies.

Google is emailing Workspace users and asking them to sign up for Google updates "about potential regulatory changes"

Our nonprofit org received the following:

"Lawmakers in state capitals across the country are [...] already proposing regulations that could make it harder and more expensive for you to reach customers online. [...]"

"America’s small businesses should have a voice in these discussions [...] From weighing in on state data privacy laws to helping influence the future of artificial intelligence (AI), your perspective can make a difference."

A screenshot of an email.

Images, if any, are blocked. The text below within parentheses is probably alt text describing images. There are two large buttons labeled "Sign Up for Important Updates"

Text:

Lawmakers in state capitals across the country are back in session – and they’re already proposing regulations that could make it harder and more expensive for you to reach customers online. You can stay up to date on potential regulatory changes and make your voice heard on these topics by signing up below.

(Google will let me know about legislative and regulatory issues, events and advocacy opportunities related to my business.)

America’s small businesses should have a voice in these discussions, and staying informed is the first step. From weighing in on state data privacy laws to helping influence the future of artificial intelligence (AI), your perspective can make a difference.

Sign up to stay informed about proposed regulations that could impact your business and to hear about opportunities to weigh in on these proposals. You will receive an email roughly once a month about key moments for your state.

(Google will let me know about legislative and regulatory issues, events and advocacy opportunities related to my business.)

Over the past few days and weeks, I’ve decided to downsize my digital and tech collection. I own so many computers, laptops, smartphones, smartwatches, accessories, and so on—I can never really use it all. I bought a lot of it just to own the latest “hot stuff.”

That’s why I’ve gotten rid of most of it—either giving it away or selling it for very little. And I’ve kept only the bare essentials. Often not even the newest or best.

For example: I now only use my Peladn Mini-PC with an old Ryzen 5 5500U as my computer; I don’t even use the newer, faster ones to their full potential, so I gave them away. I’ve now reinstalled Debian Stable on it, with an absolute minimum of programs—just the bare essentials: browser, LibreOffice, Tuta, Signal, VLC, Nextcloud, Localsend, Rustdesk.

I’ve moved away from Fedora because: Fedora = Red Hat = IBM = US Big Tech = US MAGA fascists.

I’m also saying goodbye to Proton and will only use Tuta and Posteo from now on.

All my new smartphones like the S25 Ultra, Pixel 10 Pro XL, etc., are gone; I’ve kept the cute Pixel 8a in beautiful blue, very compact, running GrapheneOS. That’s more than enough—it lasts almost 3 days, and here too, I’ve installed only the absolute essentials.

I hope nobody is under the allusion that and the associated checks will stay online.

has a 🍆 for your data and will not stop.

You can bet they will start offering gated entrances to shops. You tap your device to get in, recording your entry. All for "convenience and safety" of course.

There's already systems that ID you and record your MAC addresses of anything you transmit.

They will infest and infect our offline world as much as we let them.

Tasnim News Agency has some interesting headlines. The most interesting, perhaps, is the claim that Australia tried to entice the Iranian women's team to accept asylum offers. Take it all with a grain of salt: tasnimnews.ir/en
