“The bottom line is, respect each other, and love each other. It’s a bit idealistic, but it’s all that there is.”

GOO GOO DOLLS
Superstar Car Wash
2017 U.S. reissue

Since my 16 yr old son and I are heading out in the morning on a little 2 day getaway to see the Goos in Victoria tomorrow night, last spin of the night was an easy choice for both of us.

This album might be THE most played/listened to album of my lifetime.
I bought it on cassette the day after I first heard “Falling Down”, and it instantly became one of my favorite albums of all time. EVERY song is fucking killer. Great guitars, killer hooks and melodies, just amazing tunes front to back.

SCW (along with A Boy Named Goo) are both in my Top 10 favorite albums of the , and the fact that Ill be seeing them live again all these years later with my 16 year old who has ALSO fallen in love with them is SUPER surreal and an incredible “full circle” moment for me.

This is a Dersert Island album for me. I just can’t live without it.

"Said the President, he's got his war
Folks don't know just what it's for
No one gives us rhyme or reason
You have one doubt, they call it treason
I said we're chicken feathers, all without one gut
Tryin' to make it real, but compared to what?"

to minimalist electronica from Lapis Majuscules and Friends, an album released last year by @ambientspace from the mighty Hutt Valley;

This album is spacious like good dub, but the beats are frenetic, if minimal. Some of the tracks have a compulsiveness to them, making me want to fidget, in a fun way. I see this as continuing a kiwi tradition of minimal beat-weaving, like Jet Jaguar, or Waterlands era epsilon-blue.

OMG, this has masto vibes all over it. A great stab at AI music crap. And from Quebec. These guys are good. Gotta watch the KEXP vid too. youtu.be/zO8bt94-ybg?si=9T7tU4

I just bought myself a and started learning. I always wanted to learn to play the sax but in my childhood I only got to try out the clarinet. There is some knowledge still stuck that is transferable but I have to learn all the fingerings and how not to squeak. There are a lot of buttons but it's fun so far. I no longer want to put off the things I want to do when I have the means for them.

to The Real Thing, from an righteous swamp bluesy album called Roofdog, released in 2023;

I stumbled on this today while looking for the self-titled album of a kiwi ska band called Roofdog. This Roofdog album is by singer/guitarist Andy Johnson from Upson County, Georgia, who used to play with a band called the Royal Johnsons.

At least that's what his YouTub topic says. It's been hard to find any other info about him.

This was one of the new tracks on the epic 1994 EP Tractor. Released as a companion to the shortened radio version of You Freak Me, which was on heavy rotate on commercial music radio the same year.

geese — getting killed

style • 1/5 • consistent, occasionally interesting, but mainly 70s freak folk (?) by the strokes. guitar music has serious pick-me energy, and this is no exception!

substance • 2/5 • some lyrics are good, but i’m exhausted by the heterosexual energy.

oomph • there’s a bomb in my car!
