This friggin week can’t end fast enough.

Drowning out all the noise of the past four days best I can with a great compilation of early to mid Swedish #psychedelic rock music.

Some great songs on here by bands o had never heard of until I randomly bought this when it came out a few years back.

The gigantic booklet that comes with it is BEAUTIFUL; giving in-depth biographies on each of the comp’s eight bands.

Just a great package all around.

Windows are open, and this shit is BLASTING.

Last week, I posted one of my favorite records of the past 15 years in Wild Beasts’ Present Tense.

Today, I found THIS beautiful gem in a “Reduced For Clearance” bin, and I could not be more siked about it.

This is the debut solo album from Beasts frontman Hayden Thorpe, which was released in 2019. These songs have the same kind of magic that the songs on Present Tense had for me.

The album’s opening title track is absolutely beautiful, and from there, it’s steady as she goes.

Excellent well-written songs, produced to perfection, all anchored by what I feel is one of the most unique, incredible, and UNDER APPRECIATED voices of the past few decades.

Awesome find.

Last week, I posted the Chilean volume of this cool series, and now I’m giving the Japanese one a spin.

This one may be my favorite, as it’s got the legendary MOPS on it, as well as a great track from the very underrated Food Brain, who’s amazing album Social Gathering was just reissued by the Cosmic Rock label.

Apryl Fool has two songs here too, one of which being “Tomorrow’s Child”, a gnarly, trippy morsel of #psych trippitude.

Just a killer collection of 17 great late-#60s psych tunes from west of the Pacific.

A sleepy, quiet Tuesday morning with an absolute legend.

This reissue is an abridged version of the original 1964 album, as it leaves off both “Maybe Little Baby” and “New Baby For Christmas”.
Which is fine, as they’re probably the worst two songs on the album.

ALL George Jones friggin rules, but I lean more towards the 50s and 60s George with the flat-top hair than I do late 60s and 70s “possum” long hair George, even though his later period is recognized as having some of the greatest recordings of his career.

I love it all, but “Boy Scout George” is where I started as a kid, so there’s more of a sentimental attachment to that stuff.

Can’t go wrong with ANY George though.

A stunningly beautiful 35th anniversary reissue of an #ambient #electronic classic, and the perfect record to help wind down a busy Sunday into peace and quiet.

This is my favorite of the Japanese rock / #newage artist; an album that is sometimes referred to as “aquatic ambient” music.
It is very calm, spacious, meditative and slow, like you were floating in embryonic fluid, or slowly floating through lush colors while scuba diving. Best way I can explain it.

Almost the entire album was composed using a Yamaha DX Series FM #synthesizer ; perfect for chimes, warm digital pads, and harp plucks.

Just a gorgeous perfect record, and tailor made for any time you need to chill out and get serene.

HIGHLY recommended.

Fugazipalooza rolls on!

Sending this one out to @richardemeyers@mastodon.social , who feels this is the most UNDERRATED Fugazi record, and it’s a difficult thing to ARGUE against (pun intended).

It’s definitely the most MELODIC album they ever made. There’s certainly some hooks on this record that are bordering on pop-like, and the songs are arranged and executed in a much broader way than they’d attempted before. More sculpted and cohesive.

“Epic Problem”, “Strangelight”, “Ex-Spectator”, “Cashout”, “The Kill”… these are all amazing tunes.

If the naysayer diehards’ complaints were that it’s “too polished” or “overly pretty and melodic” or that the band was “aging out”, well…

those sound like YOU problems, dudes.

GREAT album, and definitely one of the first CLASSICS of the 2000s for me.

NOW we’re getting into the cool shit!

This is dark, blistering Dutch punk from our favorite distant land: the #1980s .

Thick, punchy bass and drums, and that special #80s brand of #postpunk guitar sound.

This band were highly influenced by the British anarcho-punk scene; bands like The Ex, who they’d later do a split cassette with in ‘84 as well.

Although it may sound like the vocals are sung in a foreign language, they’re 100% in English. You can thank the unfathomable thickness of the Dutch accent for that.

Svatsox would eventually evolve into De Kift; a VERY different musical endeavour that would lean heavy into folk, brass band, chanson, and Eastern European vibes.
THAT band’s vocals would go on to be sung in Dutch.

If you like dark, weird, post-punk records, you’ll very much dig THIS though.

Repeater’s follow-up, and one of my three favorite Fugazi records.
“Reclamation”, “Stacks”, “Steady Diet”, “Polish”, “Nice New Outfit”… ALL Fugazi bangers.

Nice sounding issue, too.
