In the short film footage, a group of hikers managed to document the exact moment a giant ice block broke off from the wall of the San Rafael glacier. The images were filmed in the Laguna San Rafael National Park, in the Chilean region of Aysén, one of the most visited areas of Patagonia. The San Rafael is known for being one of the glaciers with the fastest retreat rate in Chile due to climate change.

Il Fatto Quotidiano: La giovane promessa Bustamante ucciso con due proiettili al petto: calcio in Cile sotto choc
Il calcio in Cile è sotto choc: è morto Tomas Bustamante Carriel, giovane promessa cilena uccisa a soli 19 anni in una sparatoria ancora di cui si sa veramente poco. Secondo quanto ricostruito dalle autorità, il calciatore è stato colpito al petto da due proiettili. Subito dopo, quattro uomini lo avrebbero trascinato davanti ad un ospedale per poi fuggire e andare via rapidamente senza lasciare traccia e spiegazioni su quanto accaduto. L’équipe medica dell’ospedale ha subito tentato di salvarlo, ma le ferite d’arma da fuoco sul petto si sono rivelate troppo gravi e il ragazzo è morto poco dopo il ricovero.
Tutto è accaduto nella zona di Coihueco, in Cile. Dopo l’allarme, Bustamante è stato trasferito d’urgenza all’ospedale di Chillán: qui i dottori hanno provato a rianimarlo senza però riuscirci. Intanto gli investigatori hanno avviato un’indagine per chiarire la dinamica della sparatoria. Durante i rilievi sono stati scoperti segni di colpi d’arma da fuoco su un’auto e su un’abitazione nelle vicinanze dell’omicidio, elementi che potrebbero aiutare a ricostruire quanto accaduto. La polizia ha già fermato una persona con l’accusa di omicidio.
Bustamante era considerato uno dei giovani più promettenti del calcio in Cile. È cresciuto nelle giovanili del Ñublense, ma era stato anche nel settore giovanile dell’Huachipato prima di cominciare la sua carriera tra i professionisti. Nel 2025 aveva giocato in prestito al Brujas de Salamanca, club di terza divisione cilena.
Dopo la notizia della sua morte, il club ha pubblicato un post di cordoglio sui social in cui si legge. “Siamo profondamente addolorati per la tua scomparsa, Tomy. Preferiamo ricordarti con la gioia che portavi ogni giorno nel nostro club”, si legge nella nota della società.

Football in Chile is in shock: Tomas Bustamante Carriel, a young Chilean prospect, has died at just 19 years old after being killed in a shooting about which very little is known. According to authorities, the footballer was shot in the chest by two bullets. Shortly afterwards, four men are believed to have dragged him in front of a hospital before fleeing and quickly disappearing without leaving a trace or explanation of what happened. The hospital medical team immediately attempted to save him, but the gunshot wounds to his chest proved too serious and the boy died shortly after admission.
Everything happened in the Coihueco area, in Chile. After the alarm, Bustamante was urgently transferred to the Chillán hospital: here the doctors tried to resuscitate him without success. Meanwhile, investigators launched an investigation to clarify the dynamics of the shooting. During the investigations, signs of gunshot wounds were found on a car and a nearby house, elements that could help reconstruct what happened. The police have already arrested one person on suspicion of murder.
Bustamante was considered one of the most promising young players in Chilean football. He had grown up in the youth ranks of Ñublense, but he had also been in the youth sector of Huachipato before starting his professional career. In 2025 he had played on loan at Brujas de Salamanca, a third-division Chilean club.
After the news of his death, the club posted a message of condolence on social media, which read: “We are deeply saddened by your disappearance, Tomy. We prefer to remember you with the joy you brought every day to our club,” the club’s statement said.
