An alternate way of viewing this instead of using medical terms like "psychosis" is to view it through the lens of . Folklore beliefs fall into a bunch of different categories:

Positive for oneself and others: Helping the poor, being honest in your dealings with others and so forth are a good thing, especially in close-knit communities where your reputation will follow you everywhere.

Mostly harmless: The existence of ghosts and similar hauntings.

Harmful to self: Spending lots of money on Magical Treasure Hunts in order to get rich quickly (frankly, thar was the Bitcoin mania of the Early Modern Period).

Harmful to others: Belief in witches, changelings, antisemitic narratives, and so forth.

Really, many modern popular beliefs can and should be viewed through the lens of folklore - the recent anti-autism hysteria in the USA is a perfect example of this.
