Tonight's movie was Sphere (1998). I remember seeing this movie in the theaters after reading the book. I can't remember how well the movie adheres to the book. I have since seen this movie multiple times and it hasn't improved with multiple viewings, nor is it a great movie because it fails to marry the sci-fi elements with the horror elements. The A-list cast is great. The score by Elliot Goldenthal is memorable. I am strangely entertained by this movie, but I can see how it would not be most people's cup of tea.

Rated 4 out of 10.

Streamed on YouTube.

I'm so pleased at my progress with a new short story. I even think I know how it will end, and I rarely know that until I get there. Originally, I called it "Blood God," but I've decided "The Return Visit" works better.

Big Picture Science for Mar. 16, 2026: Skeptic Check: Project Hail Mary

As protagonist Ryland Grace fights to save Earth - and possibly the universe - in Project Hail Mary, author Andy Weir discusses the science behind his sci-fi story and what it’s like to see it adapted for the big screen. From a diversity of aliens thriving in extreme environments, to our sun’s shortening lifespan, to the conundrum of keeping astronauts alive during intergalactic missions, we consider the possibility of science fiction becoming future reality. A NASA astrobiologist who consulted on the book weighs in on how Earthly creatures have inspired some of our favorite science fiction aliens. Plus, science fiction author Becky Chambers discusses how she balances science fact with fiction in her work.

Guests:

* Andy Weir – science fiction writer, author of Project Hail Mary, The Martian, and Artemis
* Andy Fraknoi – professor of astronomy at the Fromm Institute at the University of San Francisco
* Becky Chambers – science fiction writer, author of To Be Taught if Fortunate, the Wayfinders series, and the Monk and Robot novellas
* Shawn Domagal-Goldman – NASA acting director, astrophysics division

Hey and bloggers, share your Romance book blogs with me. I'm not looking for reviews exactly, something similar to lovelyaudiobooks.info/blog/ and I already know about @herhandsmyhands blog and I love it, but I am looking for more book roundups than book reviews these days.

Excited to discover season 2 of the live action One Piece is out. Rewatched the last episode of season 1 to get my head back in the game, and now I'm watching the new ones as my body recovers from the punishing I gave it moshing to Supergroove at Homegrown (review forthcoming).

I remember enjoying the first season of One Piece, but this is a fantastic series. Literally brings tears to my eyes it's so good.

In about 30 years, it’ll be released—featuring an Indiana Jones fully reconstructed from 40 terabytes of archival footage.

The plot is peak recursion: an AI generates code for Harrison Ford's digital twin to battle a rogue algorithm in virtual pixelated jungles. Pure digital cyberpunk wrapped in a "cassette futurism" and Cold War aesthetic:
"Soviet scientists in a secret bunker under Magadan accidentally awakened an ancient Sumerian algorithm trapped within copper circuits. This proto-AI doesn't just want to conquer the world, it wants to rewrite history by purging everything chaotic and illogical... namely, the USSR."

In the end, Indiana defeats the virus by simply pulling the plug. A digital silence falls over the world, while the 2056 audience pays for their tickets in crypto-yuan, fully aware that the film itself was created by the very AI the hero was fighting on screen.
