Morrissey ha deciso di annullare il concerto in programma a Valencia, il 12 marzo, lamentando che i festeggiamenti che si stanno tenendo nella città spagnola per Las Fallas (si svolge ogni anno dal primo al 19 marzo in onore di San Giuseppe, ndr) gli hanno impedito di riposare adeguatamente durante la notte. “La mancanza di riposo ha reso impossibile lo spettacolo previsto a Valencia”, si legge in una dichiarazione pubblicata questa mattina sul sito web dell’ex frontman degli Smiths.
Morrissey è arrivato a Valencia l’11 marzo, dopo un viaggio in auto di due giorni da Milano. Durante la notte è stato disturbato dai festeggiamenti che, secondo la dichiarazione, comprendevano “canti techno ad alto volume e annunci al megafono” che si sentivano dalla sua camera d’albergo. “Questa esperienza ha lasciato Morrissey in uno stato catatonico”, si afferma nella dichiarazione. In un altro breve post sul suo sito web, il cantante ha definito la notte un “inferno indescrivibile”. “Mi ci vorrà un anno per riprendermi. E questo è un eufemismo”, ha aggiunto.
Sul sito web è stato scritto in grassetto che “lo spettacolo non è stato cancellato”, ma che sono “le circostanze” ad aver reso “impossibile” il suo svolgimento, non chiarendo se sarà riprogrammato o se chi ha acquistato i biglietti potrà chiedere un rimborso.
Il 66enne è in tour per promuovere il suo album “Make-up Is a Lie”, il primo in sei anni, pubblicato all’inizio del mese. È il 14esimo album solista dell’ex cantante degli Smiths, iconica rock band degli Anni 80.

Morrissey has decided to cancel the concert scheduled for Valencia on March 12th, lamenting that the festivities taking place in the Spanish city for Las Fallas (which takes place annually from March 1st to 19th in honor of Saint Joseph) prevented him from resting adequately during the night. “The lack of rest made the planned show in Valencia impossible,” reads a statement published this morning on the website of the former Smiths frontman.
Morrissey arrived in Valencia on March 11th, after a two-day car journey from Milan. During the night he was disturbed by the celebrations which, according to the statement, included “loud techno music and megaphone announcements” that could be heard from his hotel room. “This experience left Morrissey in a catatonic state,” the statement says. In another short post on his website, the singer described the night as an “unbearable hell.” “It will take me a year to recover. And that’s an understatement,” he added.
On the website it was written in bold that “the show was not canceled,” but that it was “the circumstances” that made it “impossible” for it to take place, not clarifying whether it will be rescheduled or if those who purchased tickets will be able to request a refund.
