Certo che la guerra, qualunque guerra, ci preoccupa e ci spaventa. Solo degli irresponsabili potrebbero abbandonarsi a una specie di assurda esaltazione bellicista. Ciò detto, quando le cose succedono (incluse quelle spiacevoli), esiste il preciso dovere politico e morale di comprendere cosa accadrebbe se i nemici della libertà dovessero trovarsi in condizione di rivendicare una qualsiasi forma di successo. Applichiamo questo criterio all'orrendo regime iraniano. In tredici giorni è stato quasi completamente schiantato dall'azione di AmericaeIsraele: la sua leadership decapitata, la sua capacità offensiva depotenziata, la sua possibilità di trovare solidarietà internazionale azzerata, il nuovo leader una specie di ologramma. Gli resta solo un'opzione disperata e distruttiva: quella legata ad attacchi contro le navi nello Stretto di Hormuz, e, in prospettiva, ma solo se il conflitto sciaguratamente durasse più a lungo del previsto, l'innesco di una crisi energetica (che al momento non c'è, e che siamo in tempo per scongiurare). Eppure, con l'eccezione di questo giornale e di non più di un paio di altre testate, in Italia il racconto è ossessivamente unidirezionale: contro Trump, contro Israele, e quasi indulgente verso un regime assassino e terrorista, a cui si attribuisce una forza che non ha più.
“Strappare la vittoria dalle fauci della sconfitta”, si dice in inglese per intendere un successo acciuffato in extremis e contro ogni ragionevole previsione. Ecco, al contrario molti media occidentali arrivano al paradosso, nel loro antitrumpismo compulsivo, di voler “strappare una sconfitta dalle fauci della vittoria”. Ragionano così: la vittoria è a portata di mano, ma occorre evitare di coglierla. E sperano che Trump, per ragioni varie (mediatiche o elettorali), sia indotto a fermarsi, regalando un successo morale a Teheran. Immaginatevi le risate a Pechino, a quel punto: nel vedere per l'ennesima volta un Occidente debole e confuso. Ed è proprio lì che ci porterebbe la comitiva Conte-Schlein-Bonelli-Fratoianni. Tra Pechino e Teheran. Pensiamoci bene.

Of course, any war worries and frightens us. Only the most irresponsible people could indulge in a kind of absurd, bellicistic glorification. That said, when things happen (including unpleasant ones), there is the precise political and moral duty to understand what would happen if the enemies of freedom were in a position to claim any form of success. Let us apply this criterion to the horrific Iranian regime. In thirteen days it has been almost completely shattered by the action of America and Israel: its leadership decapitated, its offensive capability weakened, its possibility of finding international solidarity zeroed out, the new leader a kind of hologram. It only has one desperate and destructive option: that linked to attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, and, in perspective, but only if the conflict unfortunately lasted longer than expected, the triggering of an energy crisis (which doesn't currently exist, and which we have time to prevent). Nevertheless, with the exception of this newspaper and no more than a couple of other publications, in Italy the narrative is obsessively one-directional: against Trump, against Israel, and almost indulgent towards an assassin and terrorist regime, to which one attributes a strength it no longer has.
“To snatch victory from the jaws of defeat,” as the English say to describe a success snatched at the last moment and against all reasonable predictions. Here, conversely, many Western media arrive at a paradox, in their compulsive anti-Trumpism, of wanting to “snatch a defeat from the jaws of victory”. They reason this way: victory is within reach, but it is necessary to avoid seizing it. And they hope that Trump, for various reasons (media or electoral), will be induced to stop, granting a moral success to Tehran. Imagine the laughter in Beijing, at that point: to see for the nth time a weak and confused West. And it is precisely there that the Conte-Schlein-Bonelli-Fratoianni group would lead us. Between Beijing and Tehran. Let us think about it well.
