In the 27 years since the Columbine #MassShooting we have been so thoroughly conditioned to ignore this specific frequency of violence that the U.S. military can bomb an entire school and we barely notice or care...

Iran war pushes Bank of Japan toward policy tightening despite economic risks.
March 12, 2026. Fresh supply shocks from the Middle East conflict are accelerating the Bank of Japan's hawkish agenda, intensifying inflation risks. Four sources indicate another rate hike could come as early as April.
BOJ's focus is shifting from growth support to inflation control — a departure from its traditional priority. Market pricing reflects approximately 60% probability of an April move.
Underlying inflation already approaches 2%. Firms expect 2.4% inflation in five years. Households forecast 9.8% over the same period. Labor shortages are driving the largest wage increases in 34 years.
Governor Ueda warns the conflict could harm Japan's economy through worsening terms of trade, while also pushing up core inflation.
For investors: inflation pressure now trumps growth concerns as BOJ's primary driver. The April meeting will be critical.

Am i the only one who sees history repeating itself with regard to Iran? Remember the first Iraq war? yes removed the ‘bad guys’ at the end but then what? No after war planning, all made up on the hoof. Seems like Trump hasn't learnt from history. It just seems to be petering out with no clear goals, no popular uprising….unless I’m missing something?
Some of us who’ve been to the Mid East talk about it.

“THE PRESIDENT IS TRAPPED AND NO ONE'S TALKING ABOUT IT
Pull out of Iran → Middle East collapses. Israel wiped out. America looks weak forever.
Invade Iran → 600K troops + impenetrable mountains. Afghanistan times ten.
Nuke Iran → Russia and China retaliate. WWIII. Game over.
Every path leads to disaster.
He has ZERO good options.
But yeah, tell me again about the ‘genius’ strategy.” - Amy Kelley
This is not a joke — it's real news from March 11, 2026.
The Pentagon has barred independent press photographers (including Associated Press, Reuters, and Getty) from covering Pete Hegseth's briefings on the Iran war. The reason cited internally: his team deemed some photographs from the March 2 briefing "unflattering."
Photographers were excluded from briefings on March 4 and March 10. Only Pentagon staff photographers are now permitted to cover these events.
The Washington Post first reported this. The Independent, Daily Mail, Daily Beast, AP, and others have followed. The Pentagon officially denies the "unflattering photo" motivation, but multiple sources confirm the ban on independent photographers.
Do not spread these photos.

I spent time at four of these exotic locales during my 2004 deployment to SW Asia; Al Udeid Air Base, Ali Al Salem Air Base, Camp Buehring and Camp Arifjan, which had the biggest damn swimming pool I believe I’ve ever seen.

“The New York Times has identified at least 17 damaged U.S. sites and other installations, several of which have been struck more than once since the war began.” - Rachel Hurley
Figured that in the middle of a not-a-war war the Secy.of War would refuse photographers access because a picture they published of him wasn't flattering. And I can't even blame it on his being a Repub. because the WWII Secy. Of War, Henry Stimson, was a republican appointed by FDR and I don't recall his focus being on his own looks rather than on the safety of our troops.

Given the human tragedy unfolding in the Middle East, and the spiraling economic cost from rising oil prices, wondering about the impact on vacations might seem distasteful. But tourism is a crucial part of the success of places like Dubai, and images of luxury hotels in the United Arab Emirates …

Iran war stalls Ukraine-Russia peace talks as Trump shifts focus to Middle East…
As U.S. President Donald Trump concentrates on the confrontation with Iran, diplomatic efforts to end Russia's war against #Ukraine appear uncertain... #russia #russiaukrainewar #unitedstates #donaldtrump #IranWar #middleeast
Six Democrats in the U.S. Senate on Monday said they are embarking on an intensified campaign for public hearings on the Iran war, with top Trump administration officials testifying under oath and to take steps to interrupt regular Senate business if Republicans resist. #us #usa #news #minimarketonlineltd #minimarket #America #AmericaNews #AmericaFirst #SaveAmerica #trump #donaldtrump #Iran #Democrats #war #iranwar
#Khamenei out, Khamenei in. It sounds to me like a typical power move of a suppressive terror regime like that in #Iran against its own people: you celebrated his death. His son is now there to get revenge.
If the US doesn't manage to bomb this regime into oblivion now, those 36,000 civilians and demonstrators that the Iranian regime killed this winter are going to be just an appetiser for the bloodlust of the Mullahs and Khamenei II.
The #MangoMussolini's #polling numbers are so bad -- not even the chest-thumping would-be holy war he has initiated can pull him up. He is losing EVERY demographic in #America and on every issue.

Il Fatto Quotidiano: Guerra in Iran, Trump: “Meloni cerca sempre di aiutare”. Il Pd: “Il governo smentisca”
Una frase, secca: “Cerca sempre di aiutare”. Il soggetto? Giorgia Meloni.
Iran War, Trump: “Meloni always tries to help.” The Pd: “The government must deny.”
A dry sentence: “Always try to help.” The subject? Giorgia Meloni. And who uttered it? Donald Trump in a brief interview with Corriere della Sera. But it was enough to trigger the opposition’s reaction. It comes in a context where the President of the United States, expressing appreciation for the Prime Minister, praised Italy’s willingness to contribute to managing the crisis in the Middle East sparked by the war in Iran, instigated by the US and Israel.
“I love Italy, I think Giorgia is a great leader,” Trump said. Asked about the possible role of Italy in the conflict and on the decision to send naval assets to defend Cyprus, the President added: “Giorgia Meloni always tries to help, she is a great leader and she is a friend of mine.”
This was the sentence in front of which the Pd immediately asked for clarification: “In the context of an illegal war that has inflamed the Middle East and triggered chaos in the Mediterranean, it is a serious and disturbing statement – said the Foreign Affairs head of the Pd secretariat, Peppe Provenzano – Italy must work to stop a war contrary to our principles and our interests, not to ‘try to help.’” Therefore, the explicit request to the government: “Is the Government able to deny these statements by Donald Trump in the clearest possible way? Italians have the right to know the truth.”
The article “War in Iran, Trump: ‘Meloni always tries to help.’” The Pd: “The government deny it” comes from Il Fatto Quotidiano.

“The Iranian Foreign Minister is claiming that the Epstein regime has just attacked a DESALINATION PLANT in Iran. If Iran responds in kind, the Middle East could become uninhabitable as there’s not enough fresh water for the populations to survive without their vulnerable desalination plants.” - The Resistance
This is exactly why I love #Mastodon. I was wondering, why on earth would the #Kurds want a part of this war after the way this country has treated them, over and over? Not a question you can get answered easily in the US media sphere.
But here it is, on our quirky little network: Real, actual Kurds are *not* in on this.
Grateful for this last refuge of truthful communication on the Internet!
